Have you ever experienced disabling pain that seems to come on from nowhere? It could be waking up with neck pain, back pain after bending down or migraine after long hours at desk job. Why is the pain there in the first place?
Acute pain is a distress signal from the body that alert us to existing or potential tissue damage. It is a communication pathway from the body to its owner. As such, pain is similar to the engine light on the dashboard of our cars, alerting us to potential mechanical faults and sparing the car from a complete breakdown.

To achieve rapid pain relief, we have been taught that painkillers should be the first port of call for dealing with pain. However, as effective as a painkiller can be, it is merely a band aid treatment that suppresses the pain signal. The pain might go away after a short period. However, the underlying issues could still be lingering underneath. This is akin to ignoring the engine light flashing on your car and continue on with driving. What do you think will happen to the car eventually?

Without addressing the source of the pain, the underlying issue could snowball and become harder to solve. This will lead to a slippery slope, with stronger and potentially more harmful painkillers required to manage the stronger pain signal.

Chiropractic care offers natural pain relief. Chiropractors are trained to look for the underlying cause of your issues by examining the communication pathway between the brain, the spine and the nerve. Chiropractors also look at all aspects of your lifestyle eg. physical activities, diet, sleep, work, posture etc and provide the necessary recommendations and modifications to allow your body to recover and be more resilient to prevent future occurrence.

Acute pain serves as an indicator that signifies that part of our body is under distress. Without proper management, the pain could end up being long-term and debilitating. Before reaching for drugs and pills the next time you are in pain, consider chiropractic care as your first port of call. Remember, chiropractic first, drugs second, surgery last!
