• Pressing, tightening pain on and around head, especially at temporal and frontal region. (See diagram)
• Neck pain, shoulder pain and scalp pain.
• Sensitivity to light and noise.
• Neck stiffness and discomfort.
• Headache lasting minutes to days.
Tension headache might be caused by muscular tension around the neck, shoulder and skull region. The underlying cause of tension headache, however, remains uncertain. Several common triggers of tension headache are:
• Abnormal posture. Read more about it here.
• Prolonged desk job
• Stress and anxiety
• Sleep deprivation
Chiropractic treatments can help to manage tension headache in a drug-free and effective manner. The initial phase of treatment would focus on pain management by restoring proper biomechanical function of the surrounding joints and musculature. Treatments would usually involve joint manipulation/mobilisation, soft tissue therapy (dry needling/acupuncture) and home stretches. Once the symptoms subside, the patient would then be gradually exposed to an exercise program aimed at strengthening the region and restoring proper function and posture.
If you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, please do not hesitate to come in for an examination at Spearwood Chiropractic. Call us on (08) 94183722 to make an appointment.
