Swimmer’s shoulder is sometimes referred to as thrower’s shoulder or shoulder impingement syndrome. It occurs due to repetitive overloading of the rotator cuffs muscles, resulting as pinching of the muscles with the surrounding skeletal structures.
People with shoulder impingement syndrome may experience:
- Shoulder pain with reaching overhead and lifting.
- Shoulder pain at night, affecting sleep.
- Shoulder pain radiating to the arm.
- Grinding, popping, clicking sensation at the shoulder
- Stiffness and weakness at the shoulder
Chiropractic treatments can help to manage shoulder impingement in a drug-free and effective manner. The initial phase of treatment would focus on pain management by restoring proper biomechanical function of the surrounding joints and musculature. Treatments would usually involve joint manipulation/mobilisation soft tissue therapy (dry needling/acupuncture) and home stretches. Once the symptoms subside, the patient would then be gradually exposed to an exercise program aimed at strengthening the region and restoring proper function and posture.
If you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, please do not hesitate to come in for an examination at Spearwood Chiropractic. Call us here to make an appointment.
