There are 2 types of migraine:
2.Migraine without aura, formerly called classic migraines
The exact mechanism behind the cause of migraine is uncertain. However, migraine has been found to have a variety of triggering factors such as:
- Diet (caffeine, red wine, chocolate)
- Stress
- Hormonal fluctuations.
- Bright light or loud noise
- Heat
- Insufficient or excessive sleep
- Lack of exercise
•Throbbing and intense headache, usually on one side of the head.
• Headache episode can lasts from 4-72 hours.
• Nausea and vomiting. •Sensitivity to light, sound or smell.
•Visual symptoms such as aura, flashing lights.
•Numbness to hands, feet or face
• Exacerbation of headache with physical activities.
Chiropractic treatments have been well documented to manage migraine headache in a drug-free and effective manner. Treatments that are recommended by scientific guideline are spinal manipulation/mobilisation, trigger point therapy, relaxation advice and exercises to restore posture and functions of the spinal joints. On top of that, a 2011 study evaluating a collection of scientific trials concludes that massage therapy, physiotherapy, relaxation and chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy might be as equally effective as migraine medications such as propranolol and topiramate in the prophylactic management of migraine.
