Congenital Muscular Torticollis (CMT) or wry neck is a condition commonly seen amongst infants after birth. It results in difficulty for the infant to tilt/turn their head. 

In most cases, congenital torticollis is due to spasm of the sternocleidoastoid (SCM) muscle.

This causes: 
• Tilting of the head to one side.
• Elevation of the shoulder 
• Palpable hard lump on the SCM muscle. 
 

The origin of the SCM contraction is not clear-cut could be attributed to:
• Birth trauma
• Incorrect position of the infant in the uterus. 
• Issues in the spinal structure. 
In rare cases, torticollis could be due to tumour, fracture or inflammation in the neck region. 

Congenital Muscular Torticollis could also be linked to other issues such as:
• Plagiocephaly
• Hip dysplasia
• Club foot
